This series was inspired by Sadie Plant’s collection of essays, “Zeroes and Ones”, which considers the history of computing and machines through a feminist lens and approach. Throughout her essays, a consistent theme is the connection between weaving and coding:

“Weaving was already multimedia: singing, chanting, telling stories, dancing, and playing games as they work, spinsters, weavers, and needleworkers were literally networkers as well” – Plant, Shuttle Systems.

Following Plant, these embroidery hoops revisit source code that I’ve written in the past with that same feminist argument and approach, reclaiming the code by turning it into a woven piece.
